The SSR Formula Mesh/Reverse Mesh were actually a rep of BBS E49*(and E50) rimoriginally of the mid to late 70's. Since the mid 80's many other brands have produced similar Mesh wheels over the years. SSR Mesh seem to have the highest standing of the Japanese made versions and were still available new up until a couple years ago, being re-released by Tanabe (as well as other classic SSR styles: MkI, MkII and MkIII). Older examples of SSR's are still quite commonly found for sale in used condition on Yahoo auctions Japan and various JDM themed forums. I have a set of SSR FM on my car atm and had a few others styles like Volk Racing Mesh, Impul Pro Mesh and Dyna-Lite Mesh over the years. So you may say I have an obsessive compulsive mesh disorder :P

The BBS E49/50 were available in 15-17" sizes and various widths (3-piece construction) however the 15" versions required separation of the rims to fit the tyre! The SSR were made in sizes ranging from 14-17" and also of 3-piece construction, but the outer rims were welded together. As the BBS was a true magnesium racing wheel not released commercially, I guess the SSR was inspired by motorsport and produced as a wheel for road use. More trivia: The classic BBS RS was the first 3-piece wheel on the market in 1983. You may also find this site usuful for other BBS info http://www.bbs-racing-wheels.com/index.html

There is nothing "OG" about them! Just like their other copies: "Banzai" (Hayashi Street ) and "OldSkool" (Work Equip 03) they fall well short. Despite the closely reproduced center styles, they are not even a modular 3-piece wheel! (Note the hole for valve). These are even worse bite than the Sportmax series of fake JDM... "501" (SSR Longschamp XR-4) and "002" (SSR/Watanabe RS-8) Also another such offender is Konig: I suggest a comparison between the "Rewind" (RS Watanabe 8-spoke), B-Bomb (SSR Mk III), Britelite (Weds MA86) among many others they bit fromVolk, Work, Spoon... end rant.
